# Auto-Sort

Disk Housekeeper's sorter, driven by rules you write in plain English.

Auto-Sort files according to rules written the way you would say them, not in a programming language this site documents. We do not publish a grammar. The preview is the interpretation that matters: it shows which files the rule matched before anything is applied.

Sorting is not deleting. [Autopilot](https://macmelon.com/glossary/autopilot) is the watched-folder cleaner. Use Auto-Sort when the job is to file downloads or exports. Use a clean, with the Trash, when the job is to remove. Both are described on the [Disk Housekeeper](https://macmelon.com/apps/disk-housekeeper) page, and the steps are in [Sort Downloads with plain-English rules](https://macmelon.com/use-cases/sort-downloads-with-plain-english-rules).
